Jolim

Also known as: Salt-lung, Jolim Salt-lung

Jolim Salt-lung, eldest son of Yanterr Wave-master, was a king of the Northern Isles. He stands outside the direct line of Þordil the Great, which descends instead through his younger brother Farnek and Farnek’s bastard son Orling.

As the son of the greatest sailor to have ever lived, Jolim faced an insurmountable expectational ascent before he could even begin to match his father’s prestige. He showed early promise as a strategist and as a proficient warrior. During an expedition across the abyss, however, his ship was assaulted and sunk by a leviathan of the deep, the same beast that would, in the saga of his return, be immortalized as Salt-bane, and he was lost.

Seven years after his disappearance, Farnek ruled in his stead as steward, a pitiful and prodigal man who sought nothing but vice and vanity, and whom the nobles of the Northern Isles refused to ratify as king, since Jolim’s death had never been verified. It was during this stewardship that Jolim returned. As one weathered old fisherman later retold it:

“…the late king Jolim, lungs filled with salt, strode onto the blackened shore and asked my son what the year of his return was…”

Jolim perished without an heir during the Drakhullic invasion of the Northern Isles.
