Doghul

Also known as: Doghullic, the Doghul, Infernhul

The Doghul are the Daiā of the southern reaches of Mok, descended from the dragon-princes Niverine and Ættiraxes, sons of Hhargtkle.

Their name is a wound. In the War in Heaven, Niverine and Ættiraxes sided with the mortal Emperor Raeus over the goddess Prignam, and for choosing a mortal over a god they earned the slur Doghul, “the beast that knelt”; their harsher detractors press the same meaning as Infernhul. Where outsiders read debasement in that choice, the Doghul read loyalty: theirs is the line that kept faith with a mortal lord, and they count among their remembered friends Orling the Wary, the Primevean who fought with the strength of dragons. Both readings stand, and neither is settled.

The Doghul are an isolationist people and the old enemy of the Drakhul across the north of Mok, a rivalry that endures into the Doghullic-drakhullic War. In the climactic battle of the Crisis Upon Raetun, the Crimson Emperor Viedskavn slew the Doghul commander Mathgar, son of Niverine, earning the lasting wrath of the surviving line of the Doghul and the Old Empire of the Daiā.
