Primevean

The Primeveans are the sapient mammalian peoples of Raetun, the principal homeland of their kind. Their species-name was coined by the goddess Prignam, for whom the Pri- is named.

The Primeveans are not one people but many. The great families are the Nortorn of the north, largest of all and the people of Þordil the Great’s empire, and the smaller eastern Rictorn, to whom belong the Tellorn, Tollorn, and Yllorn. Beside and between them stand the peoples who fit no single family, the Enorn, Skakorn, Kiegzorn, Jonorn, and Tytorn, and the Chinorn of the eastern peninsula. Their ethnonyms almost all take the -orn ending, the standard construction of the tongue of Oykrig.

The Primeveans were forged into a single dominion only once, by Þordil the Great, whose conquests reached from his own unified Nortorn across the breadth of the continent. It was Þordil, too, who opened the Thrakheddenol, delivering conquered Primeveans into the slavery of the Drakhul across the Sea of Garðwin. Above the common rank of their kind stands the Daiā honorific, the elevation beyond mortal Primevean stature granted to Þordil as the Son of Stone.

The shapeshifting Grakkorn are not a separate stock but draw their numbers from the Primeveans themselves: a Primevean who turns were-folk passes thereafter between their born shape and that of a beast.
